Talking about localisation… February was Black History Month in the United States, and ride sharing app Lyft’s campaign celebrating the fact generated a lot of positive buzz.
The campaign, which lasted the entire month, offered one free ride of up to $10 per Lyft account to locations that celebrate Black history and the Black community. These included “Black history museums, memorials, and relevant cultural sites”, as well as several Black-owned businesses. This campaign also tied in to their partnership with Black Girls Code, which aims to boost the number of African-American women working in the technology sector. Users of the service can opt to round up their fare through Lyft’s “Round Up and Donate” programme. The campaign was available in over 35 cities across the US and Canada.
